Definition
The number of clicks from the homepage required to reach a given page.
Crawl depth, also called click depth, measures how many link steps a page sits from the homepage or another key entry point. Pages buried deep in the structure are crawled less often and can be perceived as less important, which slows indexing and dampens ranking potential. Keeping important pages within a few clicks through flat architecture and strong internal linking improves both discoverability and perceived priority.
