Definition
A metric measuring how long it takes for the largest visible element to render on screen.
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) records the time from navigation start until the biggest content element in the viewport, typically a hero image, heading or block of text, is rendered. It is a proxy for perceived load speed, with a good threshold of 2.5 seconds or less measured at the 75th percentile of real users. Slow server response, render-blocking resources and unoptimised images are the most common causes of poor LCP.
