A third-party source is any URL in a retrieved set outside the domain the brand owns: a directory entry, industry round-up, comparison article, review page or forum thread. These usually make up the majority of the retrieved set, which is why AI visibility cannot be solved on-site alone. Third-party sources split into two very different opportunities: those already mentioning the brand, where the fastest gain is deepening an existing entry, and those naming only competitors, which form the outreach target list.
