What the evidence shows
The information-gain patent describes scoring a document by the additional information it provides relative to documents the user has already been shown, particularly in follow-up and conversational contexts. Content that merely repeats the consensus adds little gain, while original angles, data or synthesis score higher. This is a strong signal that differentiation, not duplication, drives visibility.
