Definition

The mean ranking of your pages in search results across the queries and periods measured.

Average position is the averaged rank at which your listings appeared for the queries in a given report, weighted across all impressions. Because it blends many queries and fluctuating rankings, it is best read as a trend indicator rather than a precise position, and it can be distorted when new queries enter or leave the set. Segmenting average position by individual query or page gives a far more actionable view than a single site-wide figure.
