AI Overviews (formerly Search Generative Experience) use Gemini models to compose a short answer drawn from multiple web pages, displaying source links that users can expand. Being cited in an Overview places a brand above the traditional organic results, but it can also reduce clicks because the answer is often complete on the page. Inclusion favours pages that already rank well, answer the query directly, and carry strong topical authority and clear structure, making Overviews a hybrid of classic SEO and GEO signals.
