Overview

Ensures your content roadmap is ordered by impact and effort rather than by whim.

When to use this

Run when planning a content quarter or when the backlog is longer than your capacity to ship.

Assemble the opportunity set

  • Compile every candidate topic from query gaps, decaying assets and competitor coverage.
  • Confirm each opportunity maps to a real buyer question, not an assumed one.
  • Estimate demand and business value for each opportunity from tracked data.
  • Estimate the effort to rank or be cited given current authority.

Score and sequence

  • Plot each opportunity on the impact-versus-effort matrix.
  • Promote high-impact, low-effort items to the front of the queue.
  • Flag high-effort items that require authority building before content pays off.
  • Assign an owner and a target ship date to each prioritised item.

Commit and review

  • Publish the ranked roadmap where the whole team can see the rationale.
  • Re-score the backlog monthly as new data lands.
  • Retire opportunities that no longer show demand.
