Anchor text is the wording used for a link, and it helps both users and search engines understand what the destination page is about. Descriptive, relevant anchors strengthen the relevance signal passed through internal and external links, whereas vague anchors like "click here" waste the opportunity and over-optimised, repetitive exact-match anchors on backlinks can look manipulative. Natural, varied, contextual anchor text improves both internal link architecture and the value of earned backlinks.
