Purpose
AI answer engines increasingly shape discovery yet report no analytics, so visibility must be actively monitored. This SOP establishes a disciplined rhythm to detect citation gains, losses and competitor movement.
When & who
Procedure
-
1
Run the prompt set
Query your standing set of decision-stage prompts across the target engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews.
-
2
Record citations and sentiment
Log whether the brand is mentioned, cited with a link, its position, and the sentiment or framing of each answer.
-
3
Compute the visibility score
Calculate the AI Visibility Score across the prompt set and compare it with the previous run's baseline.
-
4
Track competitors
Note which competitors are cited in your place and which sources the engines pull from.
-
5
Diagnose gains and losses
For any drop, identify whether the cited source changed, content decayed or a competitor gained ground.
-
6
Raise actions
Convert findings into citation-engineering or content tasks and route them into the backlog.
-
7
Update the dashboard
Refresh the visibility dashboard and note the trend for the reporting cycle.
